The respite was very well needed. I was able to be relaxed, care free and spend time with my family. My most memorable time was being on the beach with my family and seeing the smile on Riley's face as she enjoyed spending time with her loved ones. We really appreciate the wonderful experience that you have given us. The trip for the week was exactly what we needed to regroup as a family and enjoy one another on good terms.

A Week Away was an idea that originated from a weekend trip to Ocean City, New Jersey. My best friend and I were gifted this opportunity by someone who felt I could use some time away. It had been almost four years since doctors had diagnosed me with Stage III Anaplastic Ependymoma, a rare and aggressive form of Cancer that attacks the brain and spine.

The Weekend Away is a 2022 American thriller film directed by Kim Farrant from a screenplay by Sarah Alderson, based on Alderson's 2020 novel of the same name.[1][2] It follows a woman named Beth (Leighton Meester), who travels to Croatia for a weekend getaway with her best friend Kate. However, Kate suddenly goes missing and Beth is forced to figure out what happened to her.[3][4][5] The film was released on Netflix on March 3, 2022.[6]

Troubled teenager Will Hawkins (Kevin Quinn) is about to be sent for A WEEK AWAY at church camp. If he can turn his life around there, he can potentially avoid juvenile detention, where he's otherwise headed following a series of crimes. After losing his parents at a young age, he's been in seven schools in six years and was most recently placed in a group home. He's taken to camp by Kristen (Sherri Shepherd) and her teenage son, George (Jahbril Cook), who treats Will like a brother. George has had a year-long crush on fellow camper Presley (Kat Conner Sterling). Will quickly forms his own crush on Avery (Bailee Madison), whose dad (David Koechner) owns the camp and whose mom passed away years ago. Can the camp have the life-changing effects on Will that he both wants and needs?

Viewers are by now accustomed to teens breaking into song in the middle of everyday events, although the popular genre can't be accused of representing teen life very realistically. A Week Away carries an added layer of incredulity in the Christian teens' apparent innocence. While Avery sings about the pressures of trying to be "perfect" and finding one's "place in the world," even bad boy Will comes across as just a nice kid strapped with difficult circumstances. The dialogue doesn't clarify exactly what's going to happen to Will after his week away, making it additionally hard to believe he would so good-naturedly go with the flow at this camp. Still, the film tries to show how religious faith and communal experiences like sleepaway camps can allow teens to feel "connected" and part of something bigger, and there may be nothing that today's teens need more.

The story begins with orphaned teen Will Hawkins (Kevin Quinn, who looks like he could be Zac Efron's nephew) fleeing a police officer on foot, guitar in hand. We later learn that he's a delinquent minor with a long rap sheet that includes such funny-rebellious offenses as stealing a cop car and putting his high school up for sale on Craigslist. (There were offers.) Will is given a one-week stint at a Christian youth summer camp in lieu of criminal charges, which is how you know that the hypothetical audience for this movie is middle-class, suburban, and white. Will was arrested without bodily harm, but a Black kid from anywhere in the United States who stole a cop car likely wouldn't be, and it's hard to imagine that The System would go out of its way to find reasons not to prosecute him. The film tries to inoculate itself against charges of racial cluelessness by placing Will in the care of a Black foster mother (Sherri Shepherd's Kristin) who works at the aforementioned camp and has an earnest, nerdy teenaged son named George (Jahbril Cook).

Will bunks with George at Camp Aweegaway (a week away, get it?), and each falls for a delightful girl and woos her when they aren't trying to win assorted competitions. Will is smitten with Avery (Bailee Madison), the adorable daughter of the camp's director (David Koechner, the perfect actor for a role like this; he looks like half the beer-bellied, motivational cliche-shouting high school gym coaches in America). George makes a play for Avery's cute but socially awkward pal (Kat Conner Sterling), and slowly overcomes his poor-self image with the support of the much cooler Will. There's a fun, short fantasy musical number, reminiscent of a Super Bowl halftime show or a grand finale musical number on "American Idol," set right after Will does a "makeover" on him, and a few other moderately engaging numbers set on arrival day, in the camp's cafeteria, and in and around the swimming hole. There's almost nothing in the way of dramatic stakes, though, save for a very brief third-act interlude where Will faces the consequences of lying to Avery about his criminal past. This, of course, is a false sort of "conflict" because we know Avery would never cut the handsome, considerate, sensitive Will loose over such a minor transgression. The "villain" in the movie, a lanky redhead played by Iain Tucker, isn't all that threatening or menacing. His main sins are competitive pride, jealousy, and an overweening smugness.

Once you book your AWA Retreat, you will receive a Welcome Kit with helpful information you might need for the week. This includes informative description of the area, tips on what to pack, extra activities to explore and much more.

Although Will initially only agrees to attend camp to avoid landing in a juvenile detention facility, he finds that he actually likes it there. And more importantly, he discovers a family, with Kristin taking him home to live with her and George at the end of the week.

As I read through pages of comments from all over the world, it did not take long to click that the appeal of this film clearly extends far beyond a North Shore New Trier Kevin Quinn fanbase. During its Easter week debut, A Week Away ranked the 8th most popular Netflix title in the U.S., #3 in Brazil, #4 in India, #4 in Spain, and #6 in Germany and the Netherlands.

Comedic actor David Koechner plays camp counselor David, who memorably proclaims that any camper is just one "week away" from changing their lives. Boasting an extensive onscreen career, Koechner is best-known for appearing in the Anchorman films and playing Todd Packer in the U.S. version of The Office.

"We've obviously been working with Netflix for a number of weeks now and getting things ready. They couldn't be more excited about the fact that it's a faith-based film. They want to be able to serve content to everyone. As long as its content they believe in, and content they think is great," Powell said.

Camp Aweegaway exhibits three teams competing against one another to win a championship. As one would expect, the main characters are divided amongst teams. George and Will belong to team Verdes Maximus, Avery to a team named the Crimson Angels, and the antagonist of the movie, Sean (Iain Tucker), to the Apostles, who hold the winning streak.

Netflix's latest teen romance is the upcoming A Week Away, a musical set at a Christian summer camp for teens. The movie's cast features a mix of young stars you'll recognize, long-running adult comedians, and a handful of promising newcomers just breaking into the business. Both of the lead actors are faces you definitely know (and both got their breakout roles on Disney-related TV shows, coincidentally!), but you should also be keeping an eye on the up-and-coming members of the supporting cast. Before the movie starts streaming on Netflix on March 26, take a look at everything we know so far about who's in the cast and where we might have seen them before.\n","id":48180660,"type":"gallery","photo_source":"Image Source: Getty \/ Jason Mendez","permalink":"https:\/\/www.popsugar.com\/entertainment\/a-week-away-netflix-movie-cast-48180660","canonical":"https:\/\/www.popsugar.com\/entertainment\/a-week-away-netflix-movie-cast-48180660","share_text":"Netflix's A Week Away Is Filled With Disney Alums You'll Definitely Recognize","use_tall_image":false,"omit_from_countdown":false,"caption_num":false,"slide_tags":"NetflixMoviesStreamingA Week AwayMusical","is_cover":true},"image":"https:\/\/media1.popsugar-assets.com\/files\/thumbor\/8PVGDGFbNn_ai8rLFBN6-8VLAgU\/fit-in\/1024x1024\/filters:format_auto-!!-:strip_icc-!!-\/2021\/02\/23\/103\/n\/44498184\/80c2a79d24d835f7_GettyImages-1205395844\/i\/Bailee-Madison-as-Avery.jpg","share_image":"https:\/\/media1.popsugar-assets.com\/files\/thumbor\/v7Jqu4LYZJg0SPyFXMyZRg5HV3E\/fit-in\/2048xorig\/filters:format_auto-!!-:strip_icc-!!-\/2021\/02\/23\/103\/n\/44498184\/80c2a79d24d835f7_GettyImages-1205395844\/i\/Bailee-Madison-as-Avery.jpg","title":"Bailee Madison as Avery","intro_text":false,"body":"Madison isn't just starring as Christian teen camper Avery \u2014 she's also producing the movie!
